Hortus conclusus

Here in Vienna we have a fine selection of hidden, semi-private parks and gardens. Surrounded by medieval walls, old Roman stones and baroque jardinères one can elegantly dream away a hot noontide in the shade of chestnut-trees enveloped in fragrances of magarites and roses. Today, sunken into a dozy half-slumber my small book of verse still in hand, I drifted in and out of fancy until the borders of reality were blurred and the planes were blended into pure unbroken being.

A fine way to spend a couple of hours.

One has to know where to look, though. The larger, well-known parks are all virtually infested...

I can imagine. Most people of today aren't exactly afraid of taking up space. And you seldom have to wonder what their favorite music is, they are so happy to share it with it you. I find myself constantly searching for places, from parks to restaurants, where one can walk and eat in peace. Tallinn is, I must say, not the worst place when it comes to this, and I'm very grateful for that. Grumpy? Yes, a little :)

LBF: Yes!

LSS: Yes, I saw some of the pictures you posted of the sea and actually liked them a lot: that the Nordic (or Baltic) seas are not full of palms and fancy cocktails is clear but they have a great attraction to me in their simplicity and unrefined roughness, too! I envy anyone who is permanently living near the ocean.
