Old Ivy
As a thing sacred to Dionysus, I specially like ivy. It has a cooling, relaxing effect on me. It also feels good when buildings, monuments and old stones are partly covered by it or by vines and convolvulus. Maybe because it is a sign that nature will eventually reconquer, re-cover and reabsorb all of our man-made endeavours.
Have heard of it, although I meant this here more in the sense of a general vanitas-motif... Difficult subject if we take it to that level cause for one and from a certain perspective human beings are also a part of nature and secondly it is quite doubtful if a planetary 'intelligence' as another order of 'being' would actually even care about the existence or non-existence of organic life on it...still, this holistic theory has also something going for it just like morphogenetic fields or even some of Teilhard de Chardin's stuff...
This house is just around the corner from where I live. In winter it looks very brooding, like a dark, grey tower. This may sound strange but I think that building has a bad character and in summer the ivy cheers it up a bit!
Not at all strange. Houses have a kind of personality too. In general asians have a much better understanding of this. The way some modern houses and apartments are built in western countries... Hm, not good. I have myself experienced this.

Your reference to the ultimate triumph of nature brings to mind Dr. James Lovelock and the Gaia hypothesis.

There is something very comforting about a house dressed in ivy. It's in the same league as pipe tobacco.

Thank you. Have you acquired a copy of Straw Dogs? If not you must do so, sir.
It could take some time, yet, Hilton, till I'll get around to that one. Still, anything remotely connected with that theme does interest me...
