Ovidius (Metamorphoses)

If human beings suffer, they are incited to change whereby the catalyst of such change are often superior (meta-human) agents called the gods.

It is not a short book but that surely was some succinct comprehension of it. I like about P.Ovidius that he excels in mockery: no joke too low, no quip too blatant, eternally tossing and turning, he is to be the great trailblazer of all following Imperial literature.
